Bible Distribution in Southern India
Last Sunday, we Canadian believers started a relaxed trip to our local churches. Most of us woke up, ate breakfast, and left for church with very little on our minds beyond thanking the Lord for His day. We met with our fellow believers in our congregation. Our hearts were raised in worship of the Lord in music and sound teaching. Later, we fellowshipped over coffee, and then went home. In Canada, this is our usual Sunday.
Life as a Christian in India
Living as a faithful Christian in India, can look very different than in Canada.
Believers in India face persecution from their neighbors, government, and even their own families.
In 2024, we sent a container filled with Bibles and evangelical Christian books to a small outreach ministry in Southern India. The main goal of the outreach was to replace the Bibles and books in villages where their churches had been burned down in 2023, and early 2024. Thousands of people, Christians and unbelievers alike, had been forced to flee as entire villages were destroyed. As a result, many of their Bibles and books had been lost. Certainly their lives were of greater value, but the loss was still hard.
Distributing Bibles
Due to the persecutions of Christians, evangelists find that Bible distribution in Southern India can be very difficult. Additionally, in other areas of the country, Bible distribution may even be considered illegal. With perhaps 30-70 million Christians, around 5% of India’s massive population 1.4 billion people, there is an enormous opportunity to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Because we are so far away from India, it can be hard to know what specific prayers they need. Thankfully, ministries like Voice of the Martyr offer prayer guides for India that give us a clear picture of the difficulties our brothers and sisters in the faith face every day.
We give all praise to the Lord that the container was cleared in customs and has since been fully distributed. From our friends in Southern India:

Looking ahead
It is our prayer that the books already received will help grow the faith of the Christians receive them. As a result, may their testimonies be bold and their lives burn brightly for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are hopeful to be able to send another container in 2025 to India to further support these precious people.
